چکیده

Most active noise control (ANC) systems [1-3] are based on feedforward structure with adaptive filters, which are updated with the filtered-x LMS algorithm [4, 5] or the multiple error filtered-x (MEFX) LMS algorithm [6, 7]. The convergence characteristics of these algorithms have been studied mostly in the time domain, and it was found that the convergence characteristics were subject to eigenvalue distribution of the autocorrelation matrix of the filtered reference signal [4, 7]. Analysis in the time domain, however, requires a great deal of computation, and its physical meaning is unclear. This chapter presents a new method for evaluating the adaptive algorithm for the feedforward ANC system, which can be approximately analysed in the frequency domain at each frequency (FFT) bin separately, which can provide significant computational savings and a better understanding of the physical meaning. Some convergence characteristics in the frequency domain can be understood easily, and a preprocessing method is proposed to improve the whole performance of the adaptive algorithm, especially when the reference pathssre unknown or measured in prior. Most contents of this chapter are based on the previous works [8-11]. The chapter is orgnized as follows. In section 2, the model of adaptive algorithm for multiple noises and multiple control points system is introduced in the time domain and the frequency domain, separately. Section 3 analyzes the convergence characteristics of some adaptive algorithms in the frequency domain, like the filtered-x LMS algorithm, the Delayed-x LMS, and the MEFX LMS algorithm, and the effects of the secondary path and the reference path on the convergence performance are analysed. Some results are represented by computer simulations in section 4.

Several approaches have been introduced in literature for active noise control (ANC)systems. Since Filtered-x-Least Mean Square (FxLMS) algorithm appears to be the best choice as acontroller filter. Researchers tend to improve performance of ANC systems by enhancing andmodifying this algorithm. This paper proposes a new version of FxLMS algorithm. In many ANCapplications an online secondary pat...

On Convergence and Stability of Adaptive Active Noise Control Systems

The problems of convergence and stability of adaptive active noise control systems with the Filtered-Reference LMS algorithm are discussed. First, the assumptions required to derive convergence conditions are collected and addressed. Then, it is demonstrated that feedback systems are subject to convergence conditions different than those used for feedforward systems. Moreover, the problems of c...

An Optimized Online Secondary Path Modeling Method for Single-Channel Feedback ANC Systems

This paper proposes a new method for online secondary path modeling in feedback active noise control (ANC) systems. In practical cases, the secondary path is usually time-varying. For these cases, online modeling of secondary path is required to ensure convergence of the system. In literature the secondary path estimation is usually performed offline, prior to online modeling, where in the prop...

Analysis of the adaptive filter algorithm for feedback-type active noise control

The feedback-type active noise control (ANC) system uses only one microphone to provide necessary signals for adjusting the adaptive lter. Due to the complicated nature of the whole adaptive lter structure there have been no theoretical results about its convergence properties. In this paper, rst a stationary point of the adaptive lter using the ltered-X LMS algorithm is obtained by the averagi...

A Two-Stage Adaptive Algorithm in the Frequency Domain for a Multichannel Feedforward Active Noise Control System

The reference paths between original sources and reference sensors in multichannel feedforward active noise control (ANC) systems are often ignored by most ANC algorithms. Therefore, a two-stage adaptive algorithm in the frequency domain is proposed to deal with several of the more complicated cases, specifically addressing instances when the reference sensors must be placed far away from the n...
